GoGonova Power Paint Sprayer review

Feb 29, 2024

REVIEW – We got a couple of new toy poodle puppies for Christmas, so that means it is finally time to fence in our backyard. We hired a local company to put in a Kentucky fence, a rural look that combines wood and wire. Even though the lumber is pressure-treated, it still needs to be sealed or painted, and I’ve chosen to seal it with a clear wood sealer. For smaller jobs, using a paintbrush is just fine; for a fence, I need something that can help me get the job done a lot quicker. This is why I’m testing out GoGonova’s power paint sprayer.

GoGonova’s power paint sprayer (model GT26001) is an electric spray gun that is used to spray paint, primer, oils, solvents, and other liquids onto furniture, fences, sheds, houses, or other surfaces. It has a 1.4-liter container, four volume-control nozzles, three spray patterns, and a blowing attachment. GoGonova is a trademark of Shenzhen Linkzone IoT Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese company, and their home and yard products are sold exclusively on Amazon. Their vision is “to empower the imagination through continuous innovation of our technology.”

The box contains the following items:

GoGonova’s sprayer looks like every other sprayer on the market. It has a handle and a body that look somewhat like a cordless drill, except that there’s a container for the paint that hangs off the front. The sprayer is made of plastic and has a soft blue and black color.

After pulling everything out of the box, I read through the manual carefully, as I have never used a paint sprayer before. Sadly, this is a horrible manual. The English is terrible; parts of it appear to be copied from a Wagner manual—there’s literally a sentence encouraging the use of Wagner parts and accessories—and the illustrations are in the front of the manual, while the accompanying text is in the back. GoGonova needs to throw this one away and write a manual in clear English that explains how to setup, use, and clean the sprayer.

Thankfully, this is not a very complex gadget. First, I selected the nozzle that I wanted to use. The bigger the hole, the wider area that it will spray. At this point, I don’t really know which one is best; that can only be learned by trial and error. For now, I selected a medium-sized one.

Second, I put the nozzle in the air cap and screwed it onto the front of the gun with the union nut. I can rotate the air cap (the black piece in the picture above). If it’s horizontal, the paint will come out in a vertical oval. If it’s vertical, it will come out horizontal. If it’s at 45-degrees, it will come out in a circle, which is the setting I used, as I have both horizontal and vertical pieces of wood.

I connected the back half that contains the motor to the front half that has the nozzle.

I rotated it into place until it locked. Third, I adjusted the spray volume by rotating the black piece behind the trigger. The harder I push the trigger, the more paint that sprays, and this setting limits the max volume of spray. Again, I was not sure what the ideal setting was, so I set it somewhere in the middle.

There’s a filter in the back of the air intake, and I made sure it was in place and clean. The sprayer is ready to go.

I bought some Thompson’s WaterSeal to seal the fence and poured some into the reservoir. Per the instructions, I did not need to dilute it.

I then screwed it in place under the nozzle.

I practiced just a bit by spraying a cardboard box, but I pretty quickly moved on to spraying the fence. It takes a bit of practice to get used to everything–How hard do I squeeze the nozzle? How close to the fence do I position the sprayer? How fast do I move from side-to-side?—but after a few minutes I was quite comfortable and began sealing the fence in earnest. I spent about 90 minutes this first day sealing my fence.

What are the pros of this sprayer? One, it is very fast, way faster than using a brush or roller. I can’t overemphasize what a big deal this is. It reduces time by at least a factor of ten, and the bigger the job, the most important this is. Two, it is easy, way easier than using a handheld pump sprayer. Honestly, there’s nothing to it. I squeezed the trigger and swept it back and forth in front of the fence.

What are the cons of this sprayer? One, it’s somewhat expensive. Sure, it’s cheaper than a Wagner, but it’s still more 4x expensive than the handheld sprayer. Two, the reservoir is rather small, so I had to stop frequently to fill it up again. On the other hand, if the reservoir were larger, it would be too heavy to hold, so it’s probably about the right size.

Overall, I was very happy with how this paint sprayer worked on its first day. I did not experience any clumping or irregular spraying. The sealer went on nice and clean. I am most thrilled at the speed at which I was able to work.

Of course, day one is only half the test. After I finished, I used mineral spirits to clean out all the parts as best I could. Historically, the knock against these types of tools is that they are hard to clean, get all gummed up, and don’t work very well the next time it’s used. I finished less than half of my fence on the first day, so how did the sprayer work the next time? I am pleased to report that it worked perfectly. Apparently, the mineral spirits did a good job cleaning out the sealer. I spend 120 minutes on the second day and finished the rest of the fence. Once again, I had no problems with the sprayer at all; it was as good at the end as it was at the start.

The GoGonova power paint sprayer is a powered spray gun that I used to spray wood sealer over the wooden portions of my new fence. It has various nozzles and spray patterns, and the output volume is adjustable. I found that this sprayer significantly increased the velocity at which I was able to seal my fence, and I was really glad that I was able to use it. It was easy to clean with mineral spirits, and I did not experience any problems using it the second time around. If you have a large project where you need to seal some wood, I can say from experience that you’ll be happier if you use this gadget.
